I remember the time Sinatra came by the Dealers Room with Edward G. Robinson. The movie star. He was a good friend of Sinatra's. He visited the Sands a lot as Frank's guest. I called him "Eddie G." Frank and Mr. Robinson stop by the dealers room. Eddie G. likes to do that. He like the guys in there. He liked the way the dealers talked and how they looked at things. He would spend some time there on every trip to the Sands. So he comes in the dealers room with Frank and starts talking to the guys. Eddie G: "What are you guys watching on TV?" One of the dealers is switching the channel around to find something for Robinson. Sinatra: "Eddie you get the royal treatment." The dealers yell out there reply to Robinson. "You can watch the TV, he can't." "That's why" they respond. Another time Frank and Robinson are in the Garden Room talking. They're alone, so I walk in and go to my table and look over at them talking. They seem so quiet. I figure it must really be interesting. I would love to hear Robinson's thoughts on the great movies or great actors of his time and maybe hear Frank talk about those he liked, etc. By the way Sinatra really, really admired Robinson. So I figure I will take the chance and go over and maybe they would let me listen in. I go over and nod to Frank and say, "Hello, Eddie G." Neither of them seem bothered so I sit down. The waitress comes over and I order something. The continue talking. So I listen. They're not talking about movies. They're not talking about actors or stuff. They are talking about painting!. Yes, painting pictures. Later Frank tells me not to be talking about that in the casino. I didn't. |
