I thought you might be interested in the following story. Here in Las Vegas, they have just completed a massive new Federal Court House building. A really big and modern building with all the new security things around it. It is being named the Lloyd D George Federal Courthouse. He has been a judge here for many years. He was born and raised in Las Vegas. It is interesting to us old timers here, because of the long sort of feud between us and the Feds. Lloyd George was at first a lawyer then a district court judge and then promoted to the Federal bench. A wonderful man who showed the Feds that there were Judges who could uphold the law and still be fair and just to the citizens of Nevada. Well, this week there was a sizeable gathering at the dedication ceremony of the Lloyd D George Federal Courthouse. Judge George talked to one and all about growing up in Las Vegas and told this story: He was at one time a lifeguard at the Sands Hotel. The job payed for his studies at Brigham Young University. At the Sands, he met Sinatra many times. One day after delivering some pool furniture to Mr. Sinatras private suite, he received a call from the front desk that Sinatra wanted four chairs and a screwdriver. He thought about it and figured Sinatra wanted to build something or had a handyman fetish. This 70 year old Jurist, at a very important ceremony, a Federal Courthouse being named in his honor, talking about growing up in Las Vegas and in going through some fond memories, talks about Mr. Frank Sinatra. Is there anymore evidence needed of the impact that Frank Sinatra had on this town and those that lived here. |
