Why are the songs different on The Main Event LP & CD compared to the The Main Event video tape?

The Main Event was a live concert, broadcast over ABC TV. This concert has been released on Warner Bros. Home Video. Reprise quickly rushed the LP, The Main Event, into stores shortly after the concert. In an effort to cover the vocal problems that occurred during the television concert, the LP version of the concert was edited from a number of concerts during the Main Event tour. The source for this information is Ed O'Brien & Scott Sayers' Sinatra: The Man and His Music.

The Dallas concert was recorded at the Reunion Arena on October 24, 1987. This concert was nationally broadcast across the Mutual Broadcasting System during the week of April 18, 1988. The broadcast was a slightly abridged version of the actual concert. There are three versions of the concert available: the actual LPs used by the radio stations to play the concert (and the taped version of the same concert), a professionally recorded line concert (used as part of the creation of the broadcast version), and an audience made recording.

The Detroit concert was part of the Ultimate Event Tour: with Frank, Liza, and Sammy. There were several shows recorded, which were edited to produce the simulcasted radio and pay per view airing on February 10, 1989. To my knowledge the only source for this material has been the video tape that was available a few years ago. I don't recall any LP or cassette version of either the full versions or the edited version of the concert.

On the Sinatra 80th Live CD, there are four conductors credited: Bill Miller, Frank Sinatra Jr, Jack Elliott, and Patrick Williams.

Frank Sinatra Jr, did not become Sinatra's conductor/musical director until May 1988.
Patrick Williams was used during the recording of the Duets material.
Bill Miller frequently was Sinatra's conductor, both prior to the 1971 retirement and from 1986 to 1988. I don't have any conclusive information as to the conductor of the Dallas Reunion Arena concert. However, it would seem plausible that Jack Elliot could have been the conductor, with Bill Miller conducting from the piano during the saloon songs. During the latter day concerts, Frank Jr would step aside during the Angel Eyes or One For My Baby and let Bill Miller lead the band from the piano. Since the stage at the Sands Copa Room (at AC!) would be dark, it didn't really matter if Jr just let the singer and the background piano take center stage.

Note: (On the CD, prior to the start of (Theme From) New York, New York, Sinatra is heard to say "This is the one you wanted to hear." This line refers to introduction to Lonely Town, which was sung during the Dallas concert!)
